LASIK Eye Surgery
01

What Is LASIK Eye Surgery?

LASIK uses an excimer laser to gently reshape the cornea — the clear front surface of the eye — so that light focuses correctly on the retina. A thin protective flap is created on the cornea, the laser reshapes the tissue underneath, and the flap is replaced to heal naturally. The entire procedure takes around 10–15 minutes per eye and is virtually painless.

02

Who Is It For?

This procedure is generally suited to patients meeting the following criteria:

  • Age 18 and above with a stable prescription for at least one year
  • Myopia (short-sightedness) up to –10 D, hyperopia (far-sightedness) up to +4 D, or astigmatism up to 4 D
  • Adequate corneal thickness confirmed on pre-op testing
  • No active eye disease or keratoconus
03

What Happens During the Procedure?

Each step is performed with precision and patient comfort in mind.

  • Step 1: Comprehensive pre-operative evaluation including corneal mapping, pupil size, and dry eye assessment
  • Step 2: A thin flap is created using a microkeratome or femtosecond laser
  • Step 3: The excimer laser reshapes the corneal stroma with sub-micron precision
  • Step 4: The flap is repositioned — no stitches required
  • Step 5: Eye drops are applied and a protective shield placed
04

Recovery & What to Expect

05

FAQFrequently Asked Questions

The only way to know is a pre-operative evaluation. Dr. Mickey will assess your corneal thickness, prescription stability, tear film, and overall eye health before recommending LASIK or an alternative.

No. Anaesthetic drops numb the eye completely. You may feel mild pressure for a few seconds but no pain during or immediately after the procedure.

For the vast majority of patients, results are permanent. A small number may need an enhancement years later if their prescription shifts — this is more common in people over 40 due to natural ageing of the lens.

There are excellent alternatives: Contoura Vision, SILK/SMILE, PRK, or ICL. Dr. Mickey will guide you to the safest and most effective option for your eye.
