OCT Scan & Fundus Imaging in Mumbai – Kurla BKC, Kalina & Bandra W

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and fundus imaging are the cornerstones of modern preventive and diagnostic eye care. At Doctor Mickey's Eye Care Center, these tools are available in-house, enabling Dr. Mickey to detect conditions like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration at the earliest possible stage — often before you notice any change in vision.

OCT Scan & Fundus Imaging
01

What Is OCT Scan & Fundus Imaging?

OCT is like an MRI for the eye — it uses light waves to create cross-sectional images of the retina, macula, optic nerve, and cornea with micrometre precision. Fundus photography captures a wide-angle colour photograph of the retina, optic disc, and blood vessels. Together, they provide a comprehensive baseline and allow precise monitoring of change over time.

02

Who Is It For?

This procedure is generally suited to patients meeting the following criteria:

  • Diabetics (annual retinal screening — essential for early detection of diabetic retinopathy)
  • Patients over 40 at risk of glaucoma (family history, raised pressure, or disc changes)
  • Those experiencing any new visual disturbance, floaters, or flashes
  • Post-operative monitoring after retinal, glaucoma, or macular surgery
  • Any patient wanting a thorough baseline eye health check
03

What Happens During the Procedure?

Each step is performed with precision and patient comfort in mind.

  • Step 1: Dilating drops may be applied (not always required for OCT)
  • Step 2: OCT scan: patient places chin on rest; non-contact, painless scan takes 2–5 minutes
  • Step 3: Fundus photograph taken in the same session
  • Step 4: Dr. Mickey reviews and explains the results at the same visit
04

Recovery & What to Expect

No recovery needed. If dilating drops are used, vision may be blurry and light-sensitive for 2–4 hours. Driving immediately after dilation is not advisable.

05

Benefits

Patients choosing this procedure typically experience the following benefits:

  • Early detection of sight-threatening conditions before symptoms appear
  • Objective tracking of disease progression or treatment response
  • Results interpreted and explained by Dr. Mickey at the same visit
  • Valuable annual health record for your eyes
FAQFrequently Asked Questions

For diabetics and glaucoma suspects, annually at minimum — or more frequently if the condition is being actively monitored. Healthy individuals benefit from a baseline OCT in their 40s.

Completely — it uses light, not radiation. There are no known side effects and it can be repeated as often as needed.

OCT is outstanding for retinal and optic nerve conditions. It does not replace a full slit-lamp examination or visual field test — Dr. Mickey uses it as part of a comprehensive evaluation.
