Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR) Treatment in Mumbai – Kurla BKC, Kalina & Bandra W

Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR) is a condition in which fluid collects beneath the central retina (macula), causing blurred, distorted, or dim central vision. It most commonly affects young to middle-aged men and is often linked to stress, corticosteroid use, or type A personality traits. At Doctor Mickey's Eye Care Center, we provide careful monitoring and timely treatment to resolve the fluid and restore clear vision.

Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR) Treatment
01

What Is Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR) Treatment?

In CSR, a small defect in the retinal pigment epithelium (the layer beneath the retina) allows fluid to leak and accumulate under the retina. The macula lifts slightly, distorting the image it sends to the brain. In most acute cases the fluid resolves on its own; in chronic cases (lasting more than 3–4 months), treatment is needed to prevent permanent vision loss.

02

Who Is It For?

This procedure is generally suited to patients meeting the following criteria:

  • Young to middle-aged patients with sudden central vision distortion or dimness
  • Confirmed fluid under the macula on OCT scan
  • Chronic CSR not resolving after 3–4 months of observation
03

What Happens During the Procedure?

Each step is performed with precision and patient comfort in mind.

  • Step 1: Detailed history including corticosteroid use and stress levels
  • Step 2: OCT scan to confirm fluid and measure its extent
  • Step 3: Lifestyle counselling: avoid steroids, manage stress
  • Step 4: Treatment (if needed): subthreshold micropulse laser, half-dose PDT, or eplerenone therapy
04

Recovery & What to Expect

Acute CSR often resolves within 1–3 months without intervention — monitoring with OCT at regular intervals. Treated cases see fluid resolution over 1–3 months following the procedure. Vision typically returns to normal but mild distortion may persist in chronic cases.

05

Benefits

Patients choosing this procedure typically experience the following benefits:

  • OCT monitoring allows precise tracking of fluid levels without guesswork
  • Modern treatments like micropulse laser are gentle and do not scar the retina
  • Addressing underlying causes (steroid use, stress) can prevent recurrence
FAQFrequently Asked Questions

Not always — acute CSR often resolves on its own within 3 months. Dr. Mickey monitors with OCT and advises treatment only when necessary to prevent permanent damage.

The exact cause is not fully understood, but corticosteroid use (even nasal sprays), psychological stress, and Helicobacter pylori infection are recognised triggers. Identifying and addressing the cause is an important part of management.
